PART-TIME NORTHEAST SABES DIRECTOR: Center for Adult Education and Programs and Practitioners 30 hours/week (5 days/week). (Non-unit Professional Position)

Under the general supervision of the Executive Director of the Center for Adult Education and Programs and Practitioners (CAEPP), implements planning, delivery and reporting of professional development activities.

Duties include:

  1. Works collaboratively with SABES staff to develop, administer and coordinate professional development activities annually for approximately 22 ABE sites in the Northeast Region regarding ABE, GED, ESOL, Transition to College and Family Literacy. Provides strong collaborative leadership within the North Eastern Massachusetts office, the regional ABE programs, the statewide SABES system, and develops and maintains contact with appropriate professional, research, and community organizations.
  2. Collaborate with SABES Directors and ACLS to plan and coordinate statewide training development and workshop activities for the areas of ESOL and Advising.
  3. Serves as liaison to Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), five regional SABES centers and the Central Resource Center and attends statewide meetings as necessary to coordinate regional activities and resources relevant to ABE services.
  4. Assists Executive Director in promoting public awareness of SABES’ goals, including press coverage and public announcements.
  5. In coordination with the CAEPP Executive Director researches, writes and implements grants from various funders and is responsible for the development and administration of an annual budget of approximately $367,000.; includes preparation of the annual DESE (Department of Elementary and Secondary Education) grant, budgets and the delivery of SABES activities/products.  Prepares, monitors and is accountable for grant budget and deliverable activities/products.
  6. Attends statewide meetings as necessary to coordinate regional activities and resources relevant to ABE services.
  7. Oversees the strategic planning, development and implementation of professional development activities in the North East to meet the needs of the ABE field and the funder.
  8. Negotiates contracts with consultants, markets and manages events and actively participates in statewide planning and development activities and recruits and orients new trainers and consultants, and develops practitioner leadership.
  9. Leads the process of evaluation of SABES effectiveness through the analysis of data as part of the internal continuous improvement process.
  10. Responsible for monthly, quarterly and annual reports to grant funders.
  11. Performs other related duties/projects/responsibilities as assigned by Executive Director.

Master’s degree in Education, TESOL or related field; Minimum of five years’ experience in Adult Basic Education (ESOL experience required); Strong working knowledge of SABES mission, system, and goals and MA Dept. of Elementary and Secondary Education-Adult Community Learning Services unit; Experience in the provision of ABE training and staff development; Track record of successful grant writing and administration; Experience with multiculturalism and diversity as it relates to professional development; Demonstrated ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and work as a team member in the decision-making process; Technology skills to include Microsoft Office suite and on-line research; Strong supervisory, communication – oral, written and inter-personal, organizational and presentation skills; Demonstrated ability in program management, budgeting and staff supervision.  Must be willing to travel in-state and have scheduling flexibility.

Salary: $55,000 -58,000 annually, including pro-rated fringe benefits package. Actual salary will commensurate with education and experience.
