OFFICIAL TITLE: Staff Associate Instructional Design Training Specialist 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Assistant Director, Multimedia Services

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Subordinate professional, classified, and student personnel assigned to the area.

Instructional Design Training Specialist

The Instructional Design Training Specialist is responsible for the assistance of planning, designing, developing, documenting, and testing online courses, interactive Web applications and technologies for WSU.

The Instructional Design Training Specialist interviews subject matter experts, faculty, and students to determine instructional design and technical design requirements for development and/or redevelopment of online courses and inter-activities while creating components to increase the level of usability and prescriptive learning in WSU courses.

The Instructional Design Training Specialist analyzes data to create specifications for modifying and customizing online courses and interactive web applications.

The Instructional Design Training Specialist also creates and delivers teacher training, assisting staff members in learning new technology and delivery systems.

Primary Duties - May include, but not limited to the following:

  1. Collaborates with faculty on instructional design issues, creates customized web-based instructional elements, and assists with managing online course development.
  2. Assist in the determination of application and media support needs for faculty, staff, and students.
  3. Provides design and production assistance to faculty in the development of electronic delivery methods including assistance to faculty, staff, in the creation and/or conversion of digital content for classroom and scholarly use.
  4. Consults with individual or groups of faculty on optimal design of online courses and/or programs and effective uses of multimedia for instruction.
  5. May manage development projects from inception to completion.
  6. Assists in the design and supervises production of learning objects in a variety of formats including print, graphics, audio, video, and animation technologies to support online coursework and programs. Interviews subject matter experts, faculty, and students and analyze responses to determine instructional design and technical design requirements for redevelopment of online courses and inter-activities.
  7. Writes requirements documents.
  8. Provides professional and technical support/training to faculty.
  9. Review and maintain University Technology Service’s document library of support materials.
  10. Assist faculty, staff, and students in the use of college application, data, and network resources.
  11. Perform other duties as directed.
  12. All work responsibilities are subject to having performance goals and/or targets established as part of the annual performance planning process or as the result of organizational planning.
