OFFICIAL TITLE: Staff Associate/Server Support Specialist
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Day to day supervision from Chief Information Officer (or appropriate designee)
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Day to day supervision of occasional temporary or student support personnel
Responsible for administration and maintenance of UNIX/LINUX server infrastructure, including Sun Solaris and Unidata administration.
Responsible for support of Windows-based hardware/software campus administrative systems, including server and data storage environments.
Responsible for UNIX/LINUX and/or Windows security, backup, and disaster recovery.
Assist in management of the campus data centers.
Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of college computing and network resources.
Assist in the training of part-time and student workers/interns.
Assist in Help Desk and other user-based services.
Provide support for various software integrations, including Rave, Perceptive’s Document Imaging, Business Objects SQL server.
Assist with Ad Hoc programming tasks (e.g., course lookup, password reset, etc.).
Implement and support database software updates, including R25/25Live, SAValet, daemon, Payment Gateway, Core Web Services.
Monitor servers and the UPS for maintenance and upgrade issues.
Determine budgeting needs for server, infrastructure and UPS (maintenance, upgrades, licensing, and support).
Keep current on technology, including infrastructure, support and licensing.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Administrative Services (or appropriate designee).
College degree, preferably in computer science or information technologies, or technical training plus experience.
Must have strong demonstrated skills in UNIX/LINUX and Windows environments.
Familiarity with C++ and Java scripting; prior knowledge of Sun Solaris and Unidata a plus.
Knowledge of database technologies and database management systems.
Knowledge of web server applications, such as Apache and Tomcat, IPlanet.
Experience with basic network technologies and protocols.
Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Must be self-motivated and able to work without direct supervision.
