Detailed Job Description

Teach courses and assess performance of aviation education, training and certification; participate collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff in scholarly research; promote the general well-being of the School, faculty and the college, and the collective and individual interest of its staff and student body; support and seek always to fulfill the guiding concepts for the college embodied in the philosophy, mission, values and vision adopted by UVU.Demonstrated capabilities in teaching, research, and service are required.
Utah Valley University (UVU), and the College of Aviation and Public Services invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level within the School of Aviation Sciences. We are seeking an individual who is strongly committed to teaching and willing to take a role in research, industry service, and to work as a collegial team member, as well as a community resource when needed. The School of Aviation Sciences includes AAS, AS and BS, Degree program's in Aviation Sciences with concentrations in Professional Pilot and Aviation Administration, each offered locally and on-line worldwide with approximately 1500 students. Future plans include the development of a Part 147 A&P program, an ATC training program, an Unmanned Aerial Systems program, and a Part 65 Dispatch program.
The School of Aviation Science housed within the College of Aviation and Public Services is located in Provo, Utah; 10 minutes from the UVU's main campus in Orem. The school consists of 10 full-time faculty and 50 adjunct instructors, and over 150 additional support staff in dispatch, Part 141 flight training, and Part 145 maintenance, in addition to a fleet of 23 university- owned Diamond aircraft. Within the School of Aviation there is a Director of Safety, a Director of Student Support, a Director of Operation, a Chief Flight Instructor, a Director of On-line Education, an the Aviation School Academic Department Chair, who report directly to the dean. Minimum Qualifications

-Must have a Masters Degree or equivalent Terminal degree or earned doctorate in a related field to the academic programs within the School of Aviation.  

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1) Knowledge of subject matter and course content.
2) Skill in effective instructional strategies and techniques.
3) Ability to manage, motivate, and evaluate students and instruction.
4) Effective interpersonal, problem solving and decision making skills.
5) Ability to communicate effectively.  

Selective Placement Factors

-University teaching or industry training/experience must qualify for appointment to rank of assistant or associate professor.
-Must have extensive aviation education/industry experience.
-Area of expertise including but not limited to aerospace engineering / manufacturing, unmanned aerial systems, aviation systems technology, air traffic management, airport management / operations, aircraft dispatching, airline management / operations, fixed base operation (FBO) management, aviation safety, aircraft accident investigation, aviation law, aircraft maintenance management.
-Successful candidates for this position should have undergraduate teaching experience, have a commitment to high quality instruction in a student centered environment, and teach in area of specialty using traditional and online delivery methods. In addition, candidates should have significant industry experience, and have a record of scholarly or creative achievements.
-Professional certification in one of the department's focus areas preferred.
