We seek a dynamic scholar/artist whose work and teaching will engage students both intellectually and creatively. The successful candidate is committed to the liberal arts, and to fostering academic rigor along with artistic excellence. S/he is passionate about teaching undergraduates, and is engaged in ongoing scholarly and/or creative research agenda.


This tenure-track appointment involves teaching courses in theatre history, theory and criticism, as well as in acting, from the introductory to advanced levels. The successful candidate will also direct in our main stage season on a rotating basis.  Our comprehensive curriculum also provides opportunities to teach specialized topics, such as directing, improvisation or multicultural theatre. Experience in interactive theatre and/or community-based performance is highly desirable, as is the ability to teach theatre of non-Western cultures. The appointment includes the expectation of regular, on-going service to the program and College – for example, teaching in the core curriculum, providing student advising, mentoring capstone projects, attending scholarship auditions and other recruitment activities, and serving on faculty  committees.

Experience and Qualifications:


  • Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Theatre History/Studies or Performance, or MFA in Directing or Dramaturgy 
  • A record of successful teaching at the university level
  • Demonstrated excellence as a theatre director
  • Active engagement in scholarly and/or creative research
