Boston University (BU) is seeking an outstanding individual with exceptional academic, strategic, and interpersonal capabilities to join the University’s senior academic leadership team as the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Affairs.
A selective private research university located in Boston, Massachusetts, BU has over 33,000 students, including over 16,000 undergraduates, and nearly 4,000 faculty members across 16 colleges and schools. BU is one of the largest private universities in the United States and one of the Boston area’s largest employers. The faculty engage in strong teaching as well as solid interdisciplinary research, with over $400 million in sponsored research awards annually across both Boston campuses. BU’s main campus is bordered by Fenway Park, Brookline, and the Charles River. The Medical Campus is located in Boston’s South End neighborhood.
Reporting to the Provost, the Associate Provost will provide leadership to the University’s undergraduate education initiatives, including supporting interdisciplinary, global and co-curricular education and research, increasing student access to a wider variety of courses, and fostering a greater connection between educational and residential life. He/she will be responsible for: curriculum management and development of new and existing undergraduate programs; promoting the use of technology in undergraduate education and research; improving students’ access to courses across the institution; increasing opportunities for undergraduate research; expanding student advising to include co-curricular approaches; enhancing support currently provided by the Center for Excellence and Innovation and Teaching; and supporting the newly developed Undergraduate Honors College. The Associate Provost will articulate the vision of undergraduate programs and research, internally and externally.
The successful candidate for this position will be a builder and a strong communicator who has previous success in a similar position. S/he will have: a history as a leader with accomplishments in developing new and growing existing undergraduate programs; proven experience with innovative uses of educational technology; the ability to develop, refine, and maintain systems in a higher education environment; and proven experience working with the Provost and all relevant internal and external constituencies. A doctorate with at least five years of relevant experience is required. The Associate Provost will be a member of the faculty and eligible for consideration for an appointment as a tenured faculty member.
