The University of Iowa Theatre Arts Department seeks a full time tenure track assistant or associate professor in Stage Direction. Responsibilities include teach four courses per year in stage direction and dramatic literature. Primary responsibilities include participation in a six semester pre-professional curriculum for the MFA directing program; teaching beginning and intermediate direction for the BA degree; directing and coaching departmental productions; mentoring and advising students; recruiting, and participating in departmental and university service responsibilities. Regular professional creative work and/or research/publication is expected.
Required qualifications are: MFA, PhD, or equivalent professional experience; a strong and active record of directing stage performances, preferably including LORT experience; experience directing and teaching courses in African American or Latino/a theatre; experience in outreach and community engagement activities; and a minimum of three years of university level teaching experience beyond the TA level. The successful candidate will demonstrate training and experience in a specific specialization such as Viewpoints, Grotowski or Boal technique, Shakespeare, etc.
