Duties and
Responsibilities

Develop a nationally recognized field research program in crop physiology to address those abiotic factors that limit the economic potential and environmental sustainability of crop production systems in northwestern Montana. Potential research could include investigating methods to improve nutrient and water use efficiency, determining the traits and/or mechanisms associated with abiotic stress tolerance.

The individual is expected to cooperate with other scientists, extension personnel, farmers, and related industry, advisory and commodity groups to develop research priorities and assist in developing management recommendations. The individual must have excellent written and oral communication skills. Expectations for scholarship include publication in refereed journals, presentation at scientific and producer meetings, and development of extension-related materials. Opportunities exist to participate in graduate student education. In supporting these endeavors, the individual is expected to secure extramural funds from state, regional, and/or national sources.

 

Required
Qualifications

1.   

Ph.D. degree in agronomy, crop science, plant physiology, plant nutrition, or closely related field.

2.   

Field research experience in agronomic crops.

3.   

Demonstrated research experience pertaining to water and nutrient relations of plants and soils.

4.   

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

5.   

Demonstrated experience in planning, designing, and implementing field research.

 

Preferred
Qualifications

1.   

Experience in crop modeling and/or remote sensing.

2.   

Established record of publishing in referred journals.

3.   

Demonstrated ability to write and secure competitive grants.

4.   

Demonstrated knowledge of the crops and production practices associated with the Pacific Northwest and Northern Great Plains regions of the United States.

5.   

5. Ability to cooperate with researchers and others in the agricultural community.
