Detailed Job Description

Under the direction of the Dean of the Woodbury School of Business, the Communication Specialist will: become aware of accomplishments, projects, and events within the Woodbury School of Business and communicate this information to appropriate internal and external parties; work with members of the dean's office, department chairs, faculty, students and staff to gather newsworthy information about the school, departments, and individual faculty and staff; prepare and disseminate information gathered to the news media and to various campus publications and offices in collaboration with University Marketing; alert the Dean and other School Administrators of community and business trends and developments that could have a beneficial or deleterious impact on the School of Business; design and produce brochures, announcements, and various mailings; assist in planning and coordinating school events hosted on and off campus as well as displays and promotions used by the school; Assist the Dean, Associate Dean, and Assistant Dean as needed.
Essential Functions, Major Duties, and/or Accountabilities:
-Assume primary responsibility for developing and implementing an effective internal and external communication program. Create and update a media plan and calendar.
-Assume responsibility for marketing efforts in the School.
-Supervise, edit and follow through with production of internal and external marketing items.
-Prepare press releases and news stories for potential publication.
-Design and produce newsletters, brochures, announcements and various mailings.
-Oversee social media for the Woodbury School of Business including Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter
-Manage and maintain content for the Woodbury School of Business web page
-Develop and maintain good working relationships with University Marketing, the Advancement Office, and other offices across campus with public relations and marketing responsibilities.
-Maintain a budget for the Woodbury School of Business media needs under the direction of the Dean.
-Accept responsibility to monitor Utah Valley community and business trends and developments through networking initiatives and reading local business periodicals, alerting the Dean to noteworthy news stories and other community/business developments that may impact the School.
-Collaborate closely with the Director for Development on strategies that have synergistic application to fund raising and public relations initiatives.
-Assist with WBS event planning
-Perform miscellaneous job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree, plus 1 years of marketing or design experience (preferred 3-4 years of experience in marketing).  

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

-Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
-Ability to edit written material.
-Working knowledge of In Design, Photoshop & Illustrator.
-Demonstrated ability to design and produce brochures, posters, flyers and other publications.
-Demonstrated experience working effectively with other departments, businesses, individuals or groups.
-Effectively monitor and assess levels of engagement through developing reports and analyzing data.
-Ability to manage multiple projects.
-Excellent problem solving skills.
-Strong networking skills.
-Organized and detail oriented.
-Experience with marketing through social media.
-Coordinate, plan and execute events for the Woodbury School of Business.
-Ability to manage time and identify priority issues.  

Selective Placement Factors

-Be able to make long distance trips to represent the school.
-Have personal transportation and be able to travel locally on a regular basis.
-Attend and help with after-hours events.
