The Assistant Dean of the School of Business, Education, and Exercise and Health Sciences provides leadership and management in support of Department Chairs, faculty, and students related to the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of instructional programs, student learning outcomes, faculty development and other related activities within the instructional departments. This School is composed of three Department Chairs, 11 full-time faculty, and approximately 60 adjunct faculty.

This is a full-time position with a salary range of $64,000 to $70,400.

With campuses located throughout Boise’s vibrant and growing metropolitan area, the College of Western Idaho is the state’s newest community college. In addition to offering a full range of academic courses leading to transfer-ready Associate of Arts or Science degrees, CWI also serves as Southwest Idaho’s provider of Professional Technical Education, Adult Basic Education, Dual Credit courses, and Workforce Development Training. The College of Western Idaho serves 10,000 students and employs 350 faculty.


Essential Functions

Curriculum & Course Management

  • · Oversees operations of the School of Business, Education, and Exercise and Health Sciences.

  • · Aligns operations of the School with those of the Division and College.

  • · Assures the curriculum within the School is consistent with CWI’s mission and strategic plan.

  • · Assures programs are in compliance with all standards of NWCCU.

  • · Oversees ongoing Program and Department assessment.

  • · Assures Program and Department course listings and content are accurate.

  • · Works with Department Chairs to review and approve program and scheduling content.

    • o Assures the general academic requirements and specific requirements necessary to complete degrees (major, minor or concentration) are accurate.

    • o Assures all Departments within the School have clear missions, objectives, and outcomes.

    • o Assures all credits, course listings and descriptions, and course sequences for degree completion are accurate.

    • o Leads the School in examining, delivering, and assessing efficient and effective course delivery methods.

Management & Leadership

  • · Provides leadership in creating and maintaining a sense of community for students, faculty and staff within the School.

  • · Participates as a member of the Academic Leadership Team and attends regular meetings.

  • · Supervises regular meetings with Department Chairs and faculty.

  • · Monitors full-time faculty hiring needs within the School.

  • · Solicits information from Chairs to continuously improve Department and School functioning.

  • · Informs the faculty of Department, School, Division, and College concerns.

  • · Works with the Dean and Department Chairs to assure the development and implementation of institutional policies.

  • · Conducts performance evaluations, observations, and mentoring sessions with Department Chairs.

  • · Ensures maintenance of accurate Department and School records.

  • · Responsible for contracts and memoranda of agreement with external agencies.

  • · Maintains the protection and safe-keeping of confidential data related to operations.

  • · Verifies and signs grade changes, independent study contracts, internship agreements, extensions, exceptions, and other forms pertinent to student academic matters.

  • · Investigates and makes decisions regarding grade appeals, academic integrity, matriculation of coursework, and student behavioral issues and complaints.

  • · Leads ongoing Department and School planning processes.

  • · Participates in College committees.

  • · Develops and maintains relationships with other academic institutions.

  • · Serves as the lead Academic administrator at his or her assigned location, ensuring faculty, staff, student and College needs are appropriately communicated.

Budget

  • · Develops and manages appropriate instructional budgets.

  • · Coordinates with Department Chairs regarding budget needs.

  • · Develops long-term strategies for optimizing learning results from the Departments’ financial resources.

Other

  • · Demonstrates a strong commitment to the mission of a comprehensive community college preparing to meet the needs of its constituents in the 21st Century.

  • · Perform other duties as assigned.

  • · Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution is preferred.

  • · Experience as a full-time faculty member with a minimum of three years’ teaching experience is required.

  • · Three years of equivalent leadership or administrative supervisory experience at the department or division level, or comparable leadership experience, is required.

Minimum Requirements

Superior Candidates
Community college experience is preferred. Training or demonstrated experience is preferred in the following areas: human resources management, organizational development, teaching and learning, change management, revenue generation, budgeting, and working with college transfer programs
