The level of position into which the candidate will be hired will be based on the amount of relevant experience as determined by the Manager.

The Office of Prospect Development & Research of the University Advancement Division provides a variety of information obtained from public and Tufts internal sources on the background of the university's potential prospects, which include individuals, corporations and foundations, to support the Division's efforts to reach out to Tufts alumni and friends for strengthening their ties with Tufts and for their philanthropic support for the university's academic goals. The Office is also responsible for maintaining up to date and accurate information on all prospects and ensuring the Advance database represents our full knowledge of activities related to prospects.The department supports the university and its Schools by working with academic leadership and development officers to understand potential donors and partners to the university and moving them through the identification, qualification, cultivation and solicitation process.

The Prospect Research & Identification Analyst will have primary responsibilities for providing information toward the fundraising efforts of an assigned School and/or program, and others as assigned or requested.  The Analyst will work closely with the school(s) and department(s) to design and implement prospect identification projects with the goal of significantly increasing the university's prospect pool. In addition, the Analyst will work closely with the assistant director of prospect management to assist in implementing a robust and comprehensive prospect management system.  The Analyst will generate prospect analyses and reports in a variety of formats for development staff and for university administrators. She or he will also manage prospect information within the university's central donor database.  

Job Requirements

Basic Requirements:

• 1-2 years (Jr.) or 3+ years (Sr.) relevant experience, preferably with prior prospect research or fundraising experience
• Bachelor's degree
• Familiarity with Advance or other comparable complex databases (Millenium, Raiser's Edge,) Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint
• Excellent business and analytical skills required. Must have good writing and communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with internal staff/faculty. Must possess demonstrated analytical skills, understanding of data and tools used for its analysis. Demonstrated project management skills, attention to detail and ability to prioritize and meet frequent deadlines. Possess interpersonal skills necessary to work and collaborate successful with many different types of people.
• Must successfully complete all appropriate background checks as required

Preferred Qualifications:
Solid knowledge of fundraising related aspects of a research university is highly desired. Experience using complex databases preferred. Extensive knowledge in online and printed information sources for fundraising research strongly preferred. Demonstrated high-level skills in conducting comprehensive research and producing indepth prospect analyses and profiles. Proven skills in understanding, analyzing and synthesizing high volumes of information and producing actionable results for gift officers. Demonstrated project management skills, attention to detail and ability to prioritize and meet frequent deadlines. Must have good writing and communication skills and ability to interact effectively with internal and external audiences. Proficiency in office software including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Powerpoint. Knowledge and understanding of analytic software a plus. Advanced degree or progress towards an advanced degree desirable.
