This position will work 40 hours a week and will receive benefits. This position reports to the Educational Technology Center. This position will work closely with his/her supervisor, Educational Technology Center staff, technology services staff, and faculty to develop online educational applications using various programming languages and tools to support faculty needs for teaching and learning. Position works with faculty to assess their needs, identify solutions, and then design and implement these solutions.
20% – Analyzes internal business unit problems for feasibility of offering online instructional application options. Develops complete requirements analysis for internal and external business unit problems by coordinating with ETC staff, faculty, and other IT operations staff. Analysis including vision documentation, use case studies, formal requirements document, and test plan as appropriate for scope of the solution. Designs are produced ensuring scalability, portability, and conformity to industry and MSU Denver standards in order to ensure usability in the future.
25% – Troubleshoots existing applications and systems exhibiting logical failure and determines corrective course of action. Adapts current applications to model changing instruction methods. Meets with supervisor and faculty to determine new models and how applications need to be modified to adapt to changing learning environments.
15% – Develops test plans for the applications built to ensure systems meet requirements outlined in specifications according to appropriately analogous industry standards and patterns. Develops guidelines, operating procedures, documentation for systems use, support and maintenance. Integrates successfully tested systems and applications into the University’s e-learning environment. Integration efforts consider the University’s current operating system/software environments and realizing single sign on with campus services and our course management system when appropriate.
10% – Assist other Educational Technology Center staff with ongoing initiatives (e.g. LMS implementations and migrations, software implementations, classroom technologies). Duties may include participating in meetings, performing research, providing opinions, concerns and suggestions. Responds to tier-2 help calls as needed.
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university AND three (3) years of Web Application development including object oriented programming, interfacing with databases, and HTML/CSS experience is required. Strong analytical and communication skills. A thorough understanding of application development methodologies. Strong background in working with end-users to gather requirements and supporting technology. Proven ability to manage and meet deadlines with multiple projects concurrently. Ability to work efficiently and effectively with minimal supervision and in a team environment.
- Java J2EE Application Development experience
- PHP language experience
- Flash application development including Actionscript experience
- Oracle (SQL/PLSQL) application development experience
- Experience working in a higher education environment
