Under general supervision of Dr. Tavis and/or senior scientists, performs biomedical research on Hepatitis B and C viruses. This position is responsible for assisting in the supervision the day-to-day operation of the lab, including purchasing, safety compliance and routine support activities and for supervising the student workers in the lab, ensuring safety standards are upheld and coordinating work schedules.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in science or related field. Broad knowledge involving laboratory techniques or other specialized knowledge is desired.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Conducts biomedical research on Hepatitis B and C viruses under supervision of Dr. Tavis and the senior scientific members of the lab, such as conducting viral replication inhibition studies in tissue culture, quantitative PCR, enzymatic inhibition studies, and protein purification for Hepatitis C virus genetic analyses and Hepatitis B virus molecular biology and biochemistry

Assists with supervision the day-to-day operation of the Tavis laboratory, including ordering and accounting supplies, and routine maintenance and cleaning of lab equipment.

Supervise the student workers in the lab to assure safe working habits of the students; coordinates student work schedules; instructs students in basic research activities and supervise their lab work as appropriate.

Performs other duties as assigned.
