Under the direction of the Dean of Students/AVP, Student Life, Director of Campus Recreation & Wellness. Reporting directly to the Director, Campus Recreation & Wellness, the Associate Director for programing and assessments will assist in the development and administration of a comprehensive university-wide recreation and wellness program for 30,000+ students, faculty and staff. The Associate Director is responsible for managing the daily operations, staffing, and strategic visioning for all departmental programing as well as coordinating the research and assessment initiative. Oversees the development and implementation of recreation programs to include fitness, wellness, intramurals and outdoor recreation as well as special events.
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in a related field plus a minimum of two years of directly related experience OR any combination of education and experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling six years.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in Health, Wellness, Exercise Science, Recreation Management, or related field and two years of experience; OR a bachelor’s degree as described above and four years of experience related to the summary of duties. More than one year experience in fitness and wellness programming. More than one year experience hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating and supervising fitness staff such as strength and cardio attendants, group exercise instructors, and personal fitness trainers (must be able to train instructors in multiple class formats; must be able to train strength and cardio attendants in proper strength and cardio equipment usage).
Knowledge of campus recreation and wellness programming management theories, practices and techniques.
Knowledge of laws, policies and procedures for campus recreation and wellness activities.
Knowledge of financial/business techniques.
Knowledge of human resource practices, policies and procedures.
Knowledge and understanding of the core values set forth by the American College Health Association.
Skills in planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating a comprehensive recreation and wellness program for a campus population.
Skills in examining operations and procedures, formulating policy and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
Skills in recruiting, hiring and supervising staff.
Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals.
Skills in marketing, word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheets, databases, graphics, internet and email.
Ability to work collaboratively with other university areas and with community entities that enhance and promote the growth of campus recreation and wellness programming.
Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
Ability to oversee multiple functions and departments.
Ability to develop and facilitate educational programs and workshops.
Ability to write administrative reports as needed.
