Under the direct supervision of the Aviation Sciences Chair, the Lecturer Faculty will: teach courses and assess performance of aviation education, training and certification; promote the general well-being of the department and the university, and the collective and individual interest of its staff and student body; support and seek always to fulfill the guiding concepts for the college embodied in the philosophy, mission, values and vision adopted by UVU.
Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with an appropriate degree in a related field to the coursework being taught. Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content. See preferred qualifications for discipline or program-specific minimum qualifications.
Master’s degree (MBA, MPA or Masters in Aviation preferred) from a regionally accredited university.
Expertise including but not limited to a detailed understanding of best practices in business management, commercial flying, air traffic control, airport management / operations, airline management / operations, Fixed Base Operation (FBO) management, aviation safety, aircraft accident investigation, aviation law, aircraft maintenance management, aerospace management, flight instruction, and flight school management.
Higher education experience with online teaching preferred.
Knowledge of the principles and methodology of teaching techniques.
Knowledge of current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) policies, regulations and procedures as related to best practices in business.
Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative data analysis and research methodology.
Knowledge of subject matter and course content.
Knowledge of teaching issues, challenges and completion strategies.
Skills in recruiting, interviewing and placement of students.
Skills in assisting counselors and other department heads in maintaining an effective program.
Proven skills as a accomplished teacher/performer.
Ability to develop curriculum and teach design courses.
Ability to develop effective business and educational partnerships at the campus, local, state and national levels.
Ability to communicate (written and oral) with a wide variety of students, faculty and others.
Ability to harmonize instruction with standardized industry practices and department safety objectives.
Ability to manage, motivate, and evaluate students and their instruction.
Ability to teach college/university level aviation courses with the knowledge and skill to encourage a high degree of interactivity with students and department staff using a wide variety of methodologies.
