Detailed Job Description

The Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine (ESFCOM) at Washington State University is embarking on the accreditation and development of a next generation medical school designed to train students to be physician leaders, who innovate, adapt and discover in an ever changing healthcare landscape. The School is now inviting applications for the position of Associate Dean for Recruitment and Admissions who will join the founding Dean’s staff in leading the College into the future.

The mission of the School is to: Develop practical solutions to challenging problems in disease prevention, health care access and delivery; Train primary care physicians who will work in Washington and help alleviate a shortage of doctors, especially in rural and under-served areas; and Develop a strong research component, with faculty members who work on innovative projects, sharing what they know with students in classroom and research settings.

The Associate Dean of Recruitment and Admissions is a dedicated professional with demonstrated success in developing and executing strategies and solutions to attract and admit a talented and diverse student body at a school of medicine.

She/he leads the design, implementation and continuous evaluation of admission related policies and procedures in keeping with state and federal laws. She/he leads a broad range of recruitment activities including the initiation of programs to establish a talent pipeline.

The Associate Dean is responsible for the oversight of student records and the creation of tools to analyze recruitment and admissions data. She/he works closely with the Associate Dean for Student Affairs on the organization and implementation of new student orientation and related programming.

Additionally, the Associate Dean collaborates with the Associate Dean for Diversity, Inclusion and Leadership to initiate programs to ensure a feeder pipeline of talented potential students from diverse cultural backgrounds, socioeconomic backgrounds, first generation and rural populations.

Required Qualifications

•Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or PhD.

•Recruitment or admissions experience at a medical school.

•Experience and/or demonstrated success in creating and implementing effective recruitment or admissions strategies.

•Experience and/or demonstrated appreciation of diversity and inclusion and success in building, recruiting admitting and/or supporting a diverse student body.

•Evidence of being an excellent communicator, written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

•At least 3 years of experience in a leadership position in recruitment or admissions at a medical school.

•Experience leading teams of professionals, preferably M.D.s

•Experience interacting with the LCME or other educational accrediting bodies.

•Experienced in the use of social networking technology for communications.

•Experience with Holistic Admissions and/or with Multiple Mini Interviews.
