Director of Learning Resources and Evaluation

Assistant or Associate Professor. The University of Alabama College of Community Health Sciences, which also serves as a branch campus of The University of Alabama School of Medicine (UASOM) for medical student education, is seeking to recruit a Director of Learning Resources and Evaluation. The Director of learning resources and evaluation will provide direction and expertise to the College and its educational programs in several related and synergistic components of our educational mission—program evaluation, learner assessment, pedagogical methods, educational technology and faculty development. In this process, the Director will work closely with College undergraduate and graduate medical education and UASOM educators and administrators to examine, assess and improve educational processes and outcomes within the programs. In addition, the Director of learning resources and evaluation will lead the College in utilization and innovation of educational technology to enhance the educational mission of the College. The Director will also design, coordinate and oversee faculty development within the College to promote use of appropriate pedagogical methods and technologies to ensure current, active and learner- and patient- centered teaching.


The University of Alabama College of Community Health Sciences, which also serves as a branch campus of The University of Alabama School of Medicine for medical student education, is seeking to recruit a tenured or tenure earning Assistant or Associate Professor and Director of Learning Resources and Evaluation with a doctorate in an education field or health profession, with demonstrated expertise in health profession education and/or higher education and educational technology relevant to the College’s mission, and ability to provide direction and expertise in several related and synergistic components of the educational mission—program evaluation, learner assessment, pedagogical methods, educational technology and faculty development aspects of the College of Community Health Sciences. In this process, the Director will work closely with undergraduate and graduate medical education and UASOM educators and administrators to examine, assess and improve educational processes and outcomes within the Colleges programs. In addition, the Director of learning resources and evaluation will lead the College in utilization and innovation of educational technology to enhance the educational mission of the College. The Director will also design and coordinate faculty development within the College to promote use of appropriate pedagogical methods and technologies to ensure current, active and learner- and patient- centered teaching. The systemic scope of responsibility for the Director will facilitate utilization of the findings of educational evaluation to inform initiatives within the educational technology and faculty development areas in an iterative manner.

The College was established at The University of Alabama in 1972 in response to the Alabama Legislature’s mandate to solve the critical need for health care in rural Alabama. Since that time, the College has graduated 449 Family Medicine residents and has educated over 800 clinical-years medical students. Today, in addition to undergraduate and graduate medical education (a large Family Medicine residency and several fellowships) , the College also includes the University Medical Center, the Rural Health Leaders Pipeline, graduate level training, and the Institute for Rural Health Research. The College is dedicated to improving and promoting the health of individuals and communities in Alabama and the region through leadership in medical education and primary care; the provision of high quality, accessible health care services; and scholarship. This position will help the College to foster educational programs that prepare learners in population health principles, and scholarship in medical education and in relevant and innovative community—based participatory research that influences population health and supports partnering to address community health problems.

The College also serves as a branch campus for the University of Alabama School of Medicine, and trains seventy third and fourth year medical students as part of its mission. Tuscaloosa, with a population of approximately 100,000, is located in west central Alabama. Requirements for Applicants

Ph.D. in education or a health profession with demonstrated expertise in health professional education and/or higher education, healthcare, and educational technology relevant to the position description and appropriate to a faculty appointment within the College of Community Health Sciences. Candidates with license-applicable degrees should hold current license within the state of Alabama or eligibility for licensure within the state. Candidates should have a minimum of three years of experience in program management with supervisory experience and with knowledge and experience in medical education or related field. A track record of scholarship, focusing on learning and teaching in a health professions or medical school environment would be desirable. Successful candidates will display a collaborative and entrepreneurial spirit, a desire to work in multidisciplinary and inter-professional teams and have excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English.
