Miami University Food Studies Institute: Farm Manager to help build and manage a university organic farm and experiential education center focused on sustainable agriculture.


Duties include planning for and daily oversight of a university organic farm; conducting educational workshops and public programs focused on sustainable agricultural practices; directing student internships; assisting faculty and students in research projects related to organic and sustainable agricultural practices; working with the university culinary support center to supply sustainably-produced produce for Miami dining services; working with the local community to promote organic and sustainable agricultural practices.

Minimum Qualifications

Require: B.A. or substantial undergraduate coursework or experience in agriculture, biology, botany, environmental science, horticulture, or closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Organic farming experience, knowledge of sustainable agricultural practices, familiarity with four-season farming and intensive vegetable production, preferably in the Midwest, familiarity with general business management skills, and ability to work with students, faculty, and community members to promote organic and sustainable agricultural practices.

Position is approved for six months; re-appointment dependent upon funding and performance.
