The position reports directly to the Dean of Trades and Technology. The individual is responsible for the coordination and teaching of any and all courses in the fire science program.

Duties & Responsibilities

The position reports directly to the Dean for the school of Trades and Technology and is responsible for coordinating the development,organization and implementation of a credit Fire Science degree program. Duties include research and curriculum development including ANGEL and on line deliveries,organization of classroom and lab activities, student recruitment, program implementation and instruction of courses.This position will be responsible for recruiting and evaluating adjunct faculty, oversight of contract training, budget oversight of program and enrollment management. The individual is responsible for the coordination and teaching of any and all courses in the fire science program. This position will also be required to operate independently in a lead instructor role at the fire training tower in the Instructor, Incident Safety Officer, and Command Functions. The individual will advise and supervise students, supervise classroom and laboratory skills testing, evaluate student performance and progress. Other responsibilities will include facilitation and administration of exams and recording grades; curriculum planning, development and revision; attend Fire Science meetings as appropriate. The selected individual will also assist other faculty in preparing instructional materials and monitoring supplies, tools and equipment; keep student records. Other duties include long range planning and ongoing development of the program,division meetings and college committee assignment as assigned by the Dean.

Qualifications

An Associate Degree in Fire Science or related area from an accredited school is required and a Bachelors Degree id preferred. A minimum of five years of related industry experience and instruction is required. Minimum certifications of Structural Firefighter-2 and Fire Instructor-1 I.F.S.A.C. or equivalent, National Fire Academy Incident Safety Officer or equivalent is required; current EMT-Basic certification is preferred but not necessary. The individual must pass a medical physical exam and must meet an annual physical standard. The successful individual will be required to pass a criminal background check. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with other professionals, communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students. The successful candidate will value diversity and have a multicultural perspective with adult/minority students.
