Detailed Job Description

The Digital Media department invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with an emphasis in Digital Cinematography. The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate courses in Digital Cinematography and guide course projects, create innovative instructional materials, and supervise extra-curricular activities as assigned. Teaches day, evening, off campus, online and summer classes as needed or assigned. Engages in scholarship including research and publishing and developing sources of external collaboration for projects with industry. Participates in professional associations. Participates in program assessment and development activities related in accreditation. Assumes an active role in the planning and governance of the institution through service on department, college and campus-wide committees. Assists in recruitment, advisement, placement and follow-up of students. Engages students in projects with outside organizations and community. Attracts funding to the college through grants and other sources.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with terminal, earned degree appropriate to discipline. ABD accepted. Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content. Evidence of potential for scholarly/creative work consistent with a teaching university. Preferred Qualifications

M.F.A in Digital Film Production or a related field.

Demonstrating a minimum of five years of professional credits as a cinematographer.

Two- three (2-3) years of teaching experience

Must be authorized to work in the United States; if you hold a visa, your visa status must allow you to work at UVU.

Demo reel & IMDB listing that demonstrates at least at least five years experience.

Knowledge

Knowledge of existing and emerging production technologies and software.

Knowledge of professional film production.

Knowledge of narrative story structure and how it relates to the execution of pre-production through post-production.

Skills

Master level skill with the care, operation and output of digital cinema cameras.

Expertise with color grading software including DaVinci Resolve and Assimilate Scratch. Experience with other production and post production software helpful, such as Movie Magic Scheduling & Budgeting, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere, and Avid Media Composer.

Master level skill in the use of grip and electrical equipment.

Mastery level skill setting up digital cinema cameras.

Mastery level skill with narrative film lighting and corporate/documentary lighting.

Skills in DIT Digital Workflow.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Abilities

Ability to emphasize quality student interaction and be passionate about fostering learning among diverse student populations.

Ability to be creative in developing new platforms for student interaction with industry and industry professionals.

Ability to teach well while integrating equipment into classrooms, labs, and development sandboxes.

Possesses an amicable character and is known as a self-starter with a pride for polished output.

A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, industry, staff and students.

Possesses a commitment to teaching.
