Detailed Job Description

The Director of Student Care & Well-Being is responsible for the planning and direction of the Student Care & Well-being office. The Director works with internal and external departments and agencies to address alarming events and at-risk students.

Additional Department Summary:

The Director will report to the Associate Dean of Students and maintain a positive approach to working with on-campus administrators as well as with external individuals and agencies within the communities of Tuscaloosa and Northport, AL. The Director plans, directs and supervises the operation of the office and its staff (4 professional staff and student workers). This includes delegating work assignments and review of the work produced. The Director develops and manages the office budget for operation and prepares the needed annual reports. The Director represents the Dean of Students Office, the University and the Student Care & Well-Being office at on-campus meetings with UA administrators as well as within the community. The Director provides the knowledge and expertise needed when making decisions regarding high risk students remaining as an active student status. The Director serves as the Chairperson of the UA Behavior Intervention Team and utilizes the team's expertise and recommendations weekly. The Director also works closely with the Office of Legal Counsel, the Threat Management office, the Office of Student Conduct and the University of Alabama Police Department.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work or related field and 2 years of related work experience.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:

Valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age and have an acceptable motor vehicle report as determined by the insurance carrier.

Skills and Knowledge:

Communicate effectively with faculty, staff, parents, students and external entities. Ability to work in a high-stress environment. Knowledge of mental health law. Ability to work in a high-tress environment. Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students and families

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree with 5-10 years of experience in crisis intervention, case management or advocacy and budget experience or PhD with 3-5 years experience is preferred. 59 Monthly (exempt): - Minimum - $ 43887.96 Midpoint - $ 63648.00
