Job Responsibilities

• Directs the formulation and advancement of strategic plans for academic program growth that contributes to student recruitment, retention, and achievement and high quality operations
• Establishes collaborative relationships within the District for the achievement of District-wide goals and action plans for academic programming
• Takes a proactive role in the development and support of distance learning initiatives, alternative learning options, off-campus partnerships (including K-12 transition projects and dual credit programs), occupational training, articulation agreements, and other learning initiatives
• Supervises the Associate Dean of Business, Math, and Technologies, the Associate Dean of Health Careers and Sciences, the Associate Dean of Liberal Arts, the Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs, the Assistant Dean of Learning Commons
• Provides leadership for professional development of the various personnel in the academic affairs unit
• Coordinates the preparation and submission of all campus academic budgets and assists in the formulation of the campus budget
• Monitors departmental budgets for the academic affairs unit
• Oversees and approves the scheduling, staffing, and selection of campus course offerings and required learning resources
• Serves as a member of various campus and college-wide leadership and project management teams
• Represents the College in professional organizations and community activities
• Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Master’s Degree
• Minimum of five to eight (5-8) years of senior-level academic leadership experience in an institution of higher learning at least as division chair (responsible for more than one department/academic program), dean, or higher level
• Experience in curriculum development, accreditation, program review and outcomes assessment
• Experience supervising and developing faculty, administrative staff, and support staff for effective and productive performance in support of institutional goals

• Demonstrated commitment to student success, faculty development, outcome-based education, and to enhancing teaching and learning
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
• A commitment to one’s own professional development
• Ability to work collaboratively with one’s peers in other functional units and sister campuses
• Excellent presentation skills, both written and verbal – particularly to large audiences
• Ability to plan, budget, allocate, and manage resources
• Sensitivity to appropriately respond to the needs of a diverse population

Preferred Qualifications

• Earned doctorate degree
• Experienced in continuous quality improvement, AQIP and TQM methods
• Experience with executing articulation agreements
• Successful experience with shared governance
• Experience in managing and supporting part-time faculty
• Experience collaborating successfully with Student Support Services and other operational units
• Experienced and informed commitment to the mission of a comprehensive community college
• Teaching experience at the college level in one or more academic areas
• Experience working with diverse technology applications including SunGard Banner
• Experience working with political and community leaders to accomplish mutual educational goals
• Experience working in a community college

• Knowledge of current and future trends in the Hospitality industry
• Demonstrated success in developing external funding from private and public sources
• Evidence of grant-writing and/or fund-raising skills
• Commitment to the District’s goal of student success
• Familiarity with the mission and focus of a community college

Work Schedule

Standard College hours of business, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
