Develop an independent, recognized Extension program focused on developing and delivering solutions to problems of arthropod pests of field crops in southeastern Arkansas. The incumbent will be located at the Southeast Research and Extension Center in Monticello, Arkansas, and will be a member of the Department of Entomology and of the statewide Extension Entomology program.
Extension program activities will include field demonstrations, faculty in-service training, field days, farm visits, fact sheets, web-based educational material, newsletters, popular articles and educational presentations. Provide control recommendations, insect identification and general insect management support to county faculty, agriculture producers and the general public, and will provide support to state and regional 4-H and youth entomological activities.
The Research component will include applied research related to pest management to enhance sustainable crop production, including integration of pesticides with non-chemical tactics. Research should include collaborations with faculty in the Entomology Department, other Division of Agriculture faculty and entomologists from the Mid-South. The incumbent will seek extramural funding, train graduate students, and teach a General Entomology course at UA-Monticello.
Required: Ph.D. in Entomology or a related field (by date of hire), with a strong background in IPM strategies. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
Preferred: Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in Extension or demonstrated significant interaction with agricultural constituencies. Preference also will be given to candidates with prior experience in management of insect pests of crops, grantsmanship and collaborative research.
