Detailed Job Description

Pomona College was established in 1887 on a campus designed to recreate the best of the eastern Ivy League universities, while at the same time offering the beautiful Southern California lifestyle. Located in Claremont, CA, Pomona has approximately 1,500 undergraduate students and a student to faculty ratio of 8 to 1. Rather than growing beyond our small college roots, we later chose Oxford and Cambridge as our model for founding the Claremont Colleges, a consortium of seven independent institutions on adjoining campuses unlike any other higher education experience in America.

We are continually ranked among the best colleges in the nation on Kiplinger's Personal Finance, The Princeton Review, and the Fiske Guide to Colleges. We inspire our students to take risks and we support them in their mission to make a real difference in the world. We seek to engage and reward our employees who are professionals of the highest caliber and quality, who value our College’s intimate community and historic roots, and who contribute to the ethics, talents and excellence of our administration and faculty in a collaborative environment of equal opportunity, intellectual development, personal growth, and liberal arts education that leads the nation and the world.

Pomona College seeks a dynamic and innovative professional staff member who will contribute fully to the operations of the Admissions Office. Specific program responsibilities will be matched to the candidate’s strengths and interests in a way that both capitalizes on the candidate’s current talents and simultaneously helps the candidate grow and develop professionally. Depending on experience level and ability, this Admissions Officer could assist with or manage programs related to alumni engagement, yield programing, transfer admission, and/or information technology. The Admissions Officer is also responsible for managing an assigned territory, including three to five weeks of travel to secondary schools and college access organizations, interviewing prospective students, conducting information sessions, reviewing and evaluating applications and making recommendations on student selection.

Bachelor's degree, a minimum of two to three years of admissions or college counseling experience for the Assistant Dean position; a minimum of four to five years of admissions, college counseling, or other relevant experience, for the Senior Assistant Dean position.  A valid driver's license is required.  Bilingual is a plus.  Candidate must have an interest in the admissions profession, a commitment to the development of an ethnically, socioeconomically, and geographically diverse applicant pool and student body. Genuine appreciation of a liberal arts education in a small, residential college is also required.  The candidate must also possess strong organizational, problem solving, and analytical skills; excellent written and oral communication skills; comfort with different forms of technology and the ability to relate well with others.

The regular hours for this full time position are at least 40 hours per week on a variable schedule. Holiday, weekend and evening work hours will be required. Travel will be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division.
