The Department of Sociology at the University of Missouri-Kansas City invites applications for a ranked, non-tenure-track Assistant Teaching Professor in Sociology with quantitative and statistical expertise. Area specialization is open but the successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to teach core undergraduate courses including Introduction to Sociology, Social Problems, Introductory Statistics, Senior Capstone as well as elective courses that complement the strengths of the department. Opportunities also exist to teach graduate-level statistics and quantitative methodology and serve on master’s thesis committees.
The successful candidate will contribute to curriculum development and assessment and have demonstrated the ability to work collaboratively with other faculty members regarding the teaching of undergraduate and graduate students. A commitment to excellence in teaching is expected.
The position’s responsibilities are 80% teaching/20% service. The teaching load is 4 courses per semester. Service responsibilities include participation on committees focused primarily on instruction for the department, campus, and the profession.
Applicants must possess an earned Ph.D. in Sociology by July 31, 2016 and provide evidence of a commitment to teaching excellence in the college classroom.
Familiarity with blended and online courses is desirable.
FULL TIME/PART TIME
Full time, benefit-eligible 9 month ranked, non-tenure track faculty appointment to begin Fall 2016; a Spring 2017 start may be possible. Renewal contingent with department need and funding availability.
