The Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine (COM) at Washington State University is embarking on the accreditation and development of a next generation medical school designed to train students to be physician leaders, who innovate, adapt and discover in an ever changing healthcare landscape. The School is now inviting applications for the position of Associate Dean of Faculty Talent, Recognition and Enhancement who will join the founding Dean’s staff in leading the School into the future.

The mission of the School is to: Develop practical solutions to challenging problems in disease prevention, health care access and delivery; Train primary care physicians who will work in Washington and help alleviate a shortage of doctors, especially in rural and under-served areas; and Develop a strong research component, with faculty members who work on innovative projects, sharing what they know with students in classroom and research settings.

The Associate Dean of Faculty Talent, Recognition and Enhancement reports to the Dean of the College of Medicine. She/he is a physician or research administrator with demonstrated success in the education of physician leaders and the development of faculty toward their highest potential in their chosen field. She/he provides leadership and direction for non-clinical and clinical faculty in management of opportunities that demonstrate the school’s respect and appreciation for engagement in the education of medical students and residents. Through comprehensive faculty talent, recognition and enhancement activities, she/he helps ensure that the educational experience encountered by each student is in accordance with the stated mission of the COM and also provides for appropriate levels of self-direction and personalization. She/he ensures that the faculty of the COM are properly onboard and oriented to their roles as educators and are proactively engaged in their continuing development in their areas of specialty.

The outcomes related to this position will be measured by faculty engagement, student evaluations of faculty in clinical rotations, faculty satisfaction, and retention of skilled clinicians and researchers. She/he works with the Vice Dean of Student and Faulty Experience and the regional campus deans to ensure the learning environments across the spectrum of educational delivery are comparable and fully meet the needs of COM students and faculty.

Required Qualifications

Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or other doctoral degree in a relevant field.

Experience at rank of Associate Professor or higher at an accredited medical school in the United States or Canada.

Impactful experience with faculty development at an LCME accredited medical school or academic health setting.

5 or more years of experience in clinical education and/or teaching in a medical school or academic health setting.

Experience leading professionals in a complex organization.

Acknowledged excellent communicator, written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

5 or more years impactful experience with faculty development at an LCME accredited medical school or academic health setting.

Proven experience in creation of faculty development sessions at multiple campuses or sites.

Experience interacting with the LCME or other educational accrediting bodies.

Experienced in the use of social networking technology for communications.
