Lasell College, located in Newton, MA, invites applications for the position of Postmaster housed in the Mail Room department.

The Postmaster will coordinate all functions of the Lasell College Mail Room. 

This is a Full-time, 35hrs per week. The Postmaster will supervise student workers.

Lasell College is a private, coeducational institution offering undergraduate and graduate programs of study, which enrolls approximately 1800 undergraduate and 350 graduate students.  Founded in 1851, Lasell is one of the oldest colleges in greater Boston. Lasell College is situated approximately 15 minutes from downtown Boston and 2 minutes from routes 95/128 and the MA Turnpike.


Reporting to the Director of Conference & Auxiliary Services, the Postmaster will be responsible for the following functions, which include, but are not limited to: 

  • Sorts, distributes, and delivers incoming/outgoing mail and packages for students, faculty and staff.
  • Provides superior customer service to entire Lasell community.
  • Retrieves mail from USPS daily using College-provided vehicle.
  • Delivers all College mail to USPS daily using College-provided vehicle.
  • Tracks and records the volume of all incoming/outgoing mail and packages.
  • Meters all outgoing U.S. Postal mail and international mail. Handles all carrier packages incoming/outgoing for USPS, Fed Ex, and UPS. 
  • Establishes and maintains good rapport/working relationship with students, staff and faculty, as well as various carriers.
  • Assigns campus mail boxes for students and full time faculty, and forwards mail as requested.
  • Generates postage expense information for monthly GL posting.
  • Maintains inventory of postal supplies for internal departments.
  • Repairs/maintains mailboxes.
  • Manages Pitney Bowes relationship, including:  kiosk, software, pre-sort, etc.
  • Manages the College’s switchboard.
  • Communicates with all levels of the organization and works closely with students, staff and faculty both at the counter, over the phone and through e-mail.
  • Advises others of options, interprets procedures, and resolves problems.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.



High school diploma is required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.  

Other Skills/Requirements of the Job

  • Valid driver’s license and a driving record with no surcharge events for the past three (3) years are required to drive College-owned vehicle.
  • Prior experience with postal services and Pitney Bowes processor required.
  • Good organization, time management and supervisory skills are required.
  • Prior postal experience is preferred.
  • Ability to perform physical effort such as pushing, pulling, bending, lifting, and carrying heavy objects (over 50 lbs.)
