Detailed Job Description

The Boston Conservatory seeks an entrepreneurial, resourceful, and results-oriented development professional to serve as the Director of Individual Giving.   As a key member of the Advancement team, the Director of Individual Giving will be responsible for fundraising and management of the Conservatory’s Annual Fund and associated giving societies.  The ideal candidate will possess the experience necessary to successfully devise strategies for individual giving campaigns, manage a portfolio of prospective Encore Society donors ($1,000+), and increase individual giving to the Annual Fund to meet established goals.  Reporting to the VP of Institutional Advancement, this individual will oversee all aspects of the program.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Administer the Annual Fund program, including the annual gala, direct mail appeals, social media campaigns, online solicitations, student phonathons and gift acknowledgements with the help of support staff
  • Work closely with the VP of Institutional Advancement and the Development Officer for Alumni & Parent Relations to grow the Annual Fund
  • Identify additional opportunities and strategies for achieving an increased base for all unrestricted support. Develop cost-efficient, creative and effective ways to increase net revenue
  • Work with the Development Officer for Alumni & Parent Relations to develop strategies to ensure effectiveness of targeted campaigns and growth of the overall Annual Fund
  • Work with the Development Officer for Special Events to maximize the effectiveness and revenue generated from the annual gala and other fundraising events
  • Engage new donor prospects through cultivation and stewardship activities and special events
  • Oversee the Annual Fund budget, including budget tracking and benchmarking
  • Work collaboratively with the Marketing department on the look, feel, and content of all materials related to the Annual Fund  
  • Produce an annual giving report for contributors
  • Report on and analyze annual giving progress and trends on a weekly basis
  • Supervise the Development Officer for Alumni & Parent Relations and the Development Officer for Special Events
  • Train, manage, and coordinate student phonathon workers in tandem with the Database Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement complex individual giving programs including oversight of online fundraising and social media strategies.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills; sense of humor, polished professional demeanor.
  • Must be able to work some evening and weekend hours.
  • Proven ability to work & lead effectively in a highly diverse campus community.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of Annual Fund experience in an educational or non-profit setting.
  • Solid experience with fundraising database software related to annual giving or direct marketing programs (experience with Raisers Edge a plus).
