Develops, supports, and maintains the College’s data communications network services to ensure continued systems connectivity and maximum network performance. Ensure integrity and availability of services through continuous assessment of system operations. Provide technical expertise and guidance, networking and operating system expertise, project management, and serve as an escalation resource for all technical needs. Performs hands on LAN, WAN, Security, Phone system, Server, Storage, Computer Equipment and Peripheral installation and troubleshooting. Assist with the procurement of hardware, software and services. Develop and maintain operating guidelines, policies and procedures and ensure adherence to the same.
Develops, enhances, modifies, and maintains the College’s data communications network services in accordance with established priorities, policy directions, and goals:
In conjunction with the Director of Enterprise Systems/Network and the Chief Information Officer, develops and implements policy, practices, and technology in the planning and implementation of network services for the College.
Analyzes the College’s needs regarding the use of network equipment and services and provides technical support, innovative solutions, and integrated proposals for network systems, including recommendations for network hardware and software acquisitions;
Formulates, develops, and implements integrated network architectures for computer systems;
Installs, configures, and maintains computer and network operating systems and applications software. Plans, tests, and implements network, file server, mainframe, and workstation hardware and software. Provides on-call support for network systems, as required;
Monitors network performance and troubleshoots network problems to ensure maximum network performance and continued systems connectivity;
Effectively collaborates with all other Office Technology Services areas; e.g., website, computer operations, etc., to ensure successful systems integration;
Develops and maintains network documentation for system users;
Develops internet usage policy and monitors usage by students and employees to ensure adherence to established policy. Sets up new system users and establishes access limitations to ensure proper utilization of the College’s internet capabilities;
Maintains an accurate and detailed record of network upgrades, repair records, maintenance schedules, and diagrams to ensure appropriate and timely documentation.
Interfaces with vendors, as needed, for hardware, applications and support regarding warranties, licensing, on-site problem resolution, etc.;
Plans network enhancement projects, as required. Works directly with outside contractors regarding network enhancement projects, network features, technical requirements, project contracts and contract specifications and proposals, as appropriate. Ensures proper systems licensing;
Develops and conducts related training workshops in areas of computers and network systems for faculty and all levels of employees;
Performs ongoing evaluation of data communications network software and hardware to ensure the continued and future effectiveness and efficiency of the network;
Ensures computer systems are safe from illegal intrusions, viruses, data theft, fraud, and other forms of tampering by recommending security policy, building firewalls, proactively installing virus protection software, etc. Identifies and addresses potential threats and properly records all incidents.
Develops and updates disaster recovery plans, documents procedures, and coordinates the testing of plans to ensure a timely response to unanticipated major systems failures, data safety/data security issues, and a timely return to business-as-usual status;
Remains current with developments in uses of data communications network technology through independent research, current membership in professional organizations, attendance at conferences and trade shows, etc. Researches and evaluates new data communications network standards, technologies, applications and trends, and recommends plans to Chief Information Officer for future enhancement of the network.
Actively participates in special projects directly related to data communications network services development, support, and maintenance to determine the feasibility of implementing new or revised operations, procedures, processes, etc., to better address the network needs of the College.
Projects a positive self-image of technical skill and professionalism, appearance, confidentiality, courtesy, conduct, honesty, fairness, and personal integrity at all times.
Performs other data communications network services development and design activities, as required. Remains flexible and adaptable in work schedules and work assignments as defined by organizational and departmental needs.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
Provides ongoing supervision to direct reports including ongoing leadership, advice, training, and guidance;
Ensures proper staffing levels and work distribution;
Conducts staff meetings to promote a constant flow of information, open discussions, knowledge sharing, and to keep staff well-informed;
Continually assesses the performance of direct reports. Develops and communicates performance goals, completes performance evaluations within established timeframes; provides feedback, develops and takes action on performance improvement plans, and determines and implements necessary disciplinary action, as needed;
Supports the personal development and career growth of staff by identifying and providing ongoing training as applicable.
