This position is for an Academic Advisor in the College of Business at Metropolitan State University of Denver. This academic advising position reports to the Associate Dean of the College of Business and coordinates advising activities for the college within the University’s Academic Advising Center. The position will be responsible for academic advising for the College of Business freshmen, sophomores and transfer students. The position participates in group and individual presentations, faculty training both on and off campus and regularly interacts with the academic departments within the College of Business.
The College of Business Advisor will be responsible for: Coordinating planning and preparing for advising sessions: Maintaining confidential student files as well as documenting all advising sessions using Student Success Collaborative (SSC)or current advising record keeping system; Referring and/or informing students of University resources; Disseminating policy and procedure information to students, departments and other University units; Working with University services for student retention initiatives; Participating in University recruitment and orientation and other University functions related to these efforts, contributing to college recruiting and retention initiatives. Reviewing CBUS and departmental websites to ensure they are updated in a timely manner, as well as maintaining and updating other online advising resources; Participating in advising training sessions and professional development opportunities whenever possible; Assisting with and evaluating transfer courses and Degree expectations and initiating BASE (Board of Academic Standards Exceptions) petitions when applicable to ensure that all majors within the college have comparable evaluations of their previous coursework; Working with the Admissions office to identify newly admitted business majors and contacting them regarding orientation and advising; Participating on College of Business and/or University committees and task forces as needed; Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelors degree
- One year of higher education experience working directly with students.
- One year of academic advising related experience.
-Three or more years of experience in developmental advising or equivalent experience) at an accredited institution.
- Experience using a computer based advising system.
- At least one year of Banner experience.
- Experience working with diverse, urban and non-traditional student populations.
- Degree or work experience with one of the six business college disciplines (ACC, CIS, ECO, FIN, MGT, MKT)
-Experience creating and implementing training or workshops.
- Experience advising at an AACSB accredited school or college of business.
-Knowledge of guarantee transfer pathways coursework, transfer articulation agreements and transfer credit evaluations.
