Detailed Job Description
The ECMH Consultant will assist Project LAUNCH staff in developing or adopting a comprehensive mental health consultation model that incorporates national models and best practices.
Additional Department Summary:
Provides a wide range of early childhood mental health consultation and training services to help adults nurture the social and emotional development of children ages birth through five years in early care and learning settings, as well as through home-based settings, such as early intervention and home-visiting programs, and to improve the quality of care across settings. The ECMH Consultant will work with families and early childhood providers caring for children with social-emotional-behavioral challenges that put them at risk for expulsion from early care and learning settings. The ECMH Consultant will consult with Alabama's Early Intervention System personnel to improve the identification of social-emotional developmental delays/behavior problems and the intervention models and techniques to address them. The ECMH Consultant will consult with child care providers on ways to strengthen their overall program to promote the social-emotional development of all of the children in their care. The ECMH Consultant will serve licensed child care centers, licensed group day care homes, registered family day care homes, early intervention providers, home visiting programs and state Pre-K and other preschool programs in Tuscaloosa County.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree and three years experience.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in social work, psychology, counseling or related field. Three years of experience as a mental health consultant specializing in relationship-based work with young children and their families and care providers. Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report as determined by the insurance carrier.
Skills and Knowledge:
Consultant should also be familiar with early childhood social emotional and behavioral screening/assessment/evaluation tools such as: • Infant-Toddler Environment Rating Scale (ITERS) • Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS) • Devereux Early Childhood Assessment (DECA) • Ages and Stages Questionnaire: Social and Emotional (ASQ: SE) and SEAM • Teaching Strategies GOLD
Knowledge of early childhood development (birth through five), particularly social-emotional development. Experience with the assessment of social and emotional functioning among children ages birth through five. Experience working in early care and learning settings, as well as in home-based individualized service settings. Experience providing consultative services in a variety of settings with providers in early intervention, home visiting, and early care and education; reflective supervision. Experience providing training and facilitating groups Warm, empathetic personality and excellent communication skills.
