Pomona College seeks a dynamic and innovative professional staff member who will contribute fully to the operations of the Admissions Office and support the department’s recruitment of historically underrepresented, first-generation, and low-income students. The Admissions Officer is also responsible for managing his/her assigned territories, including three to five weeks of extensive travel to secondary schools, interviewing prospective students, conducting information sessions, reviewing and evaluating applications, and making recommendations on student selection.

This Admissions Officer will join an innovative and high-energy Diversity Team within the Admissions Office. That team’s mission is to increase the representation of traditionally underrepresented groups at Pomona College through spirited outreach and mindful advocacy. Our team is dynamic, passionate, and committed to breaking new ground in student recruitment, particularly with underrepresented populations. The Assistant Dean will report to the Associate Dean of Admissions who oversees diversity recruitment and serve on a team of five admissions officers (including the Associate Dean, two Assistant Deans, and two Admissions Officers) and two support staff members. The Assistant Dean will serve as the primary lead on the five on-campus fly-in diversity programs the College hosts each year. 

Bachelor’s degree, a minimum of two years of admissions or college counseling experience, and a valid driver’s license is required. Bilingual is a plus. Candidate must have an interest in the admissions profession, an understanding of and the ability to speak to the challenges of recruiting, selecting, and enrolling historically underrepresented, first-generation, and low-income students, a willingness to work collaboratively within a diverse team, and a commitment to the development of an ethnically, socioeconomically, and geographically diverse applicant pool and student body. A genuine appreciation of a liberal arts education in a small, residential college is also required. The candidate must also possess: strong organizational, problem solving, and analytical skills; excellent written and oral communication skills; comfort with different forms of technology; and have a good sense of humor with the ability to relate well with others.

REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this full time position are at least 40 hours per week on a variable schedule.  Holiday, weekend and evening work hours will be required.  Travel will be required.  Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division.
