The Department of Foreign Languages at Wheaton College invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor of Mandarin Chinese beginning July 2012. A Ph.D. is required in Mandarin Chinese or Chinese studies. Preference for a native or near-native fluency in Mandarin Chinese and in English, proficiency in North American models of language and content area pedagogy, teaching experience at the college level in North America, outstanding skill in and enthusiasm for teaching all levels of Mandarin Chinese, including advanced language and content-based courses (i.e. literature, culture, history). Accepted candidate will teach three 4-hour courses (or equivalent) per semester at all levels, participate in the department’s proficiency testing program and in student advising and other service activities, and collaborate with the Chinese language program coordinator and with summer study abroad program.
