Frostburg State University, Department of Student and Community Involvement, seeks applications for the full-time, exempt position of Director of Lane University Center. Salary commensurate with experience and includes University System of Maryland benefits package.
The 75,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art Lane University Center is the central hub of the FSU campus community. The facility plays a pivotal role in student life, as well as providing student organizations, faculty, staff, alumni, community members, and visitors to campus with an opportunity to experience the best our university has to offer in quality customer service and support for campus activities and events.
Responsibilities: Serving on the management team for the Department of Student and Community Involvement, direct daily operations and provide visionary leadership in administration, management, and strategic planning efforts for the Lane University Center as well as an off-campus multi-purpose venue. Manage four full-time staff members; recruit, train, and supervise approximately 40 student employees. Oversee departmental policy development, operational budgets, and cost centers (Information Desk, Centralized Technical Services, Game Room, Fitness Center, and Computer Lab). Manage EMS campus event scheduling software. Support the Summer Conferences program. Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Business, Public Administration, or related field. At least three years of full-time work experience in university center/student union management, including training and supervision of students and professional staff, with a record of responsible leadership in a higher education setting. Demonstrated knowledge of best practices related to university center/student union management, including an understanding of key areas such as student activities, conference and event management, food service and catering, and/or facility operations. Knowledge of event scheduling software such as EMS. Evidence of ability to build coalitions and partnerships, deal with external/internal clients, and provide extraordinary customer service. Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, mentorship, conflict resolution, and adaptability. Proven ability to effectively interact with a diverse student population. Valid non-commercial driver’s license. Must be available to work nights and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications: We are seeking a student-centered candidate who understands the Student Affairs profession and can bring documented experience in the field. Proficiency with EMS event scheduling software preferred. Knowledge of theatrical sound and lighting or other technical services a plus.
Other: Any combination of training and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in a related field and progressively responsible related work experience may be considered.
