Detailed Job Description

Under general direction, is responsible to plan and coordinate weekly activities and staff of the summer youth camp provided through the department of campus recreation.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics

Knowledge of the principles and philosophy of elementary education and children’s activities
Knowledge of leisure studies, recreation, and physical education
Knowledge of sports and recreation terminology
Interpersonal/human relations skills
Excellent organizational skills and attentiveness to detail
Excellent coordination, collaboration, and communication (written and verbal) skills
Ability to relate to children, students, institutional personnel, and the public
Ability to instruct, teach, tutor, and develop staff
Ability to foster an environment of continuous improvement and development of ideas to support diversity
Ability to develop and implement program and risk management materials
Self-motivated and energetic
Interviewing skills
Proficient in personal computer and various software programs
Ability to work flexible schedule

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in elementary education; supplemented with one (1) year work related experience in a summer camp setting. CPR/first aid training required.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Plans and coordinates all activities associated with the summer camp program; supervises group leaders and camp participants.

Ensures that camp needs are met on a daily basis, proper equipment is available, and activity areas are properly set up; utilizes technology in support of camp activities.

Prepares weekly schedules and monitors activities; works closely with the group leaders in providing a safe and organized camp environment.

Picks up supplies and equipment to support recreational activities provided at camp.

Performs other duties as assigned.
