MAJOR PROGRAM DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
We are seeking an individual with teaching ability at undergraduate and graduate levels in selected aspects of construction management (e.g., estimating, construction cost accounting, construction law, and project management). Candidates must be able to demonstrate understanding and experience in construction project management, sustainability issues, and current construction technologies.
Responsibilities of the position include the following:
•Teaching a minimum of five courses on construction management topics including, but not limited to, estimating, construction cost accounting, construction law, and project management per year;
•Develop a research program demonstrated by publications in professional and/or academic journals;
•Participation in School committees and student mentoring;
•Willingness to offer continuing education and short courses to industry and students.
•Master’s degree in Construction Management or related discipline;
•Five years professional experience in a construction project management capacity;
•Ability to conduct research and scholarly activities in a defined area of interest;
•Ability to work in a team environment and to be involved in collaborative projects.
•For Clinical Professor, candidate must have demonstrated teaching record, a minimum of five years of relevant industry experience, and a proven record of collaborative work with the construction (building) industry.
•For Associate Professor, the candidate must have a PhD in Construction Management or related discipline plus five years of teaching and research experience in an accredited professional degree program in Construction Management by the date of hire and at least 6 years as an assistant professor or equivalent.
•Teaching ability at undergraduate and graduate levels in selected aspects of construction management (e.g., estimating, construction cost accounting, construction law, and project management). Candidates must be able to demonstrate understanding and experience in construction project management, sustainability issues, and current construction technologies.
•PhD in Construction Management or related discipline. ABD will be considered with an expectation of completion within one (1) year of hiring date;
•Professional registration/certification such as PE, AIA, LEED, CPC, or DBIA;
•Previous teaching experience at the university level;
•Demonstrated development of funded research and/or scholarly achievements;
•Ability to develop and deliver elective courses in construction management;
•Experience in one or more of the following: heavy civil, commercial or large scale residential construction, land development, or specialty contracting;
•Experience and ability in alternative project delivery, facilities management, sustainability, or virtual design and construction (VDC);
•Proficiency in Revit, Navisworks, or similar software.
The School of Design and Construction is distinctive in higher education in that four of the major disciplines of the Built Environment are held within one School: Architecture, Construction Management, Interior Design and Landscape Architecture. The collaborative make-up of the School enables faculty to work with students from different disciplines in an integrated environment with the goal of promoting and increasing effectiveness within the professions. Integration opportunities also extend to the College of Engineering and Architecture via the potential for collaborating on teaching and research.
The Construction Management program is an ACCE accredited program. The curriculum is a four year profession Program leading to a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management. Upon completion of pre-requisite courses, non-certified students must apply after their first year to be certified into the program and complete the final three years. The Construction Management program has an active student internship program and many double-majors in Architecture and Construction Management. Additionally, Construction Management offers a Minor Program that consists of students from many disciplines including Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Interior Design, and Civil Engineering. An emphasis/track in Construction Engineering was recently developed in cooperation with the Civil Engineering program. An anticipated start date of fall 2016 has been set for the Construction Management and Civil Engineering programs to deliver a totally integrated Construction Engineering Management Bachelor’s degree. Construction Management at WSU is clearly committed to integration and collaboration and we are seeking candidates who find the opportunity to work in this type of environment in teaching, research and service to be of particular interest.
The School of Design and Construction (SDC), formed in July 2012, is the result of a concerted, faculty-led merger of existing programs in Architecture, Construction Management, Interior Design, and Landscape Architecture. All four programs are involved in shaping a dynamic vision for design and construction education that mirrors the collaborative and integrated professional environment of the twenty-first century.
The SDC currently includes 31 full or part-time faculty. The faculty is dedicated to providing the broad-based cultural and theoretical foundations of design and construction management expected from a research-intensive institution of higher learning. With roughly 650 graduate and undergraduate students across the four disciplines, the SDC is one of the largest schools at WSU and is uniquely positioned to engage in interdisciplinary research and teaching. Additionally, as the School is jointly administered by the College of Agricultural, Human and Natural Resource Sciences (CAHNRS) and the College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA), faculty and students have broad exposure to and abundant opportunities to interact with the allied disciplines.

LINE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
This position reports administratively to the Construction Management Program Coordinator and SDC Director.
The School of Design and Construction is co-located in the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture (VCEA) and the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences (CAHNRS). This co-location adds substantially to the potential for teaching and research collaborations.
