Detailed Job Description

Under the direct supervision of the Associate Director of Computer and Classroom Technology (ADCCT), the Classroom Technology Support Specialist (CTSS) supports faculty, staff and students in the operation of classroom technology used throughout the Professional Performance Division (PPD).

The CTSS is responsible for the maintenance, inventory, distribution and upgrade of classroom equipment, and works alongside the Computer Technology Operations Manager (CTOM) to complete the Computer and Classroom Technology (CCT) support team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Technical:

  • Coordinates the support of users [faculty, staff, students] operating classroom technology and equipment in the PPD.

  • Responsible for the installation, maintenance, upgrade and inventory of PPD classroom technology resources; such as professional audio/video systems, instrumental equipment, classroom desktops and MIDI workstations for academic and administrative use.

  • Delegates and escalates tasks from the CCT Tickets database to student employees when appropriate. Supervises and trains student employees providing classroom technology support.

  • Assumes ownership of tickets assigned and follows­through until resolved, including communication, both internally and to the user.

  • Under the supervision of the CTOM, provides computer technology support to PPD faculty. Assists the CTOM with computer technology projects and initiatives.

  • Supports the Performance Technology lab, providing adequate technical support and customer service to faculty and students using the lab.

  • Spot­checks all classroom setups to ensure equipment is maintained in optimum working order. Determines best resolutions when problems occur and works closely with repair personnel.

  • Provides support for standard and specialized classrooms, labs, clinics and events; oftentimes during off hours.

  • Oversees the care and relocation of permanent and loaner classroom equipment. Supervises the delivery to classrooms and sets up the equipment as needed.

  • Develops user guides for classroom technology equipment and provides training to faculty. Responsible for communicating provided services to the community.

  • Keeps up to date on emerging technology and seeks out innovations to be applied to classroom facilities. Researches best practices for supporting faculty in the area of classrooms technology.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

2. Teamwork:

  • Promotes a positive and professional work environment.

  • Assists and works closely with the CTOM to complete CCT projects.

  • Collaborates and shares knowledge freely with student employees, Music Instrument Repair

    Center, Performance Technology staff, Physical Plant, Training & Support and the CTMI staff.

  • Promotes training offerings to PPD faculty and staff.

  • Participates in departmental, area and other meetings impacting technology.

  • Acts as project manager on projects assigned by the ADCCT.

  • Assists in Performance Technology department support when needed.

  • Adheres to PPD and Performance Technology published guidelines.

  • Other duties as assigned.

3. Professional Development:

  • Stays informed of classroom technology advancements, specifically those that are used or could be used at the college.

  • Stays up­to­date with any required or suggested certifications.

  • Participates in required training for both technical and interpersonal skills.

Required Skills

  • Ability to troubleshoot diverse equipment setups and explain their function and operation to end­-users.

  • Strong technical skills in the configuration and troubleshooting of Apple computers.

  • Ability to oversee and manage large equipment inventories.

  • Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines.

  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.

  • Ability to interact, communicate and work well with others.

  • Awareness of and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse faculty, staff and student population, with particular attention to academic requirements and special needs.

  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 45 pounds during equipment relocations.

  • A commitment to excellent customer service.

  • Strong organizational and record­ keeping skills.

  • Professional phone and writing skills.

Required Experience

  • Expertise with classroom technology, including professional audio/video equipment, instrument amplifiers, electronic musical instruments and MIDI lab environments.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, music background preferred.

  • Work experience in a support role, preferably working with college faculty and students.

  • Familiarity with database, spreadsheet and word processing software. Filemaker experience is a plus.

  • Experience in project management.
