Detailed Job Description

Under the supervision of the Director of First-Year Experience & Student Retention, this position will be responsible for providing support and mentoring to UVU students who are considered first-generation students. Collaborates and builds networking opportunities with UVU departments as well as faculty and staff to ensure appropriate services are provided for these students. Tracks and monitors progress of students to ensure they receive appropriate support to enhance their ability to be successful and complete their intended degree.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate’s degree and two years professional experience in a related discipline or a combination of education and experience totaling four years.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution OR any combination of education and experience totaling 5 or more years of experience related to the summary of duties.


Knowledge of best practices and strategies specifically for first-generation student persistence.
Knowledge in current mentoring and coaching strategies for higher ed. students.
Knowledge of a variety of computer applications including Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Design Suite.


Skill in organizational, verbal, and written communication.
Skill in budget management.
Skill in interpersonal, problem-solving, decision-making, and public relations sufficient to work with and relate to a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff.


Ability to work in an office environment with minimum supervision.
Ability to work with attention to detail, maturity, professional demeanor, tact, and diplomacy.
Ability to prioritize and to change priorities as needs arise.

Pay Range

$27,051 - $37,196
