Detailed Job Description

This position reports directly to the Director of Athletics with dotted line reporting relationship to University General Council. The Associate Athletics Director for Compliance is responsible for the development, oversight, and maintenance of a comprehensive NCAA Division I, Western Athletic Conference, Big 12 and institutional compliance program. Serves as the primary institutional liaison regarding NCAA compliance. As a member of the executive leadership team, this position is responsible for planning, implementing and directing daily compliance operations as well as engaging in departmental projects and initiatives as assigned. The individual must serve with the highest level of integrity while upholding the department and institution’s mission, vision and values. Works collaboratively with units across campus to develop policies and procedures that ensure institutional, conference and NCAA compliance. Develops institutional policies and procedures regarding the investigation and reporting of NCAA, Western Athletic Conference and Big 12 rules violations. Conducts investigations and reports findings of potential NCAA WAC, and Big 12 violations. Oversees the Assistant Athletics Directors for Compliance and Financial Aid and evaluates them and their staffs. Engages in best practices of risk management related to WAC, Big 12 and NCAA bylaws and protocols. Liaises with various campus and athletics groups and committees to ensure compliance related matters are addressed at all institutional levels.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor degree from an accredited institution in a related field plus at least two years of related experience to the summary of duties or a combination of education and experience totaling six years.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a Masters degree in sports management, business or related field. Juris Doctorate preferred.


Working knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations, and the functioning of an intercollegiate athletic department.

Knowledge of and ability to produce, coordinate, and submit NCAA required reports.

Knowledge of NCAA and WAC waivers, appeals, and reporting processes.

Knowledge of APR, GSR, WAC Bylaws, and NCAA Bylaws and violations.

Knowledge of industry standards and best practices.


Highly developed problem-solving skills.

Skills in budget preparation and execution.

Skills in computer software for record keeping, presentations, and NCAA databases including LSDBi, CAi, APP, etc.

Skills in record keeping and reporting for large quantities of critical and sensitive information.

Excellent writing skills including ability to draft appeals and waivers.


Ability to oversee and manage a successful Division I Compliance Program.

Ability to review and implement newly passed NCAA and Conference legislation.

Ability to represent UVU Athletic Department appropriately and develop and maintain positive relationships with community agencies, campus entities, and department staff.

Ability to maintain integrity and keep confidences in critical situations on a day-to-day basis.

Ability to educate and motivate coaches and student-athletes in NCAA Compliance, conference regulations, academic policies, and athletic department policies and procedures.

Ability to work with cross-functional teams and to foster teamwork.

Ability to work with diverse populations in a positive manner

Ability to direct and monitor certification of initial, transfer, and continuing academic eligibility of student-athletes, and maintain NCAA Academic Performance Program.

Ability to effectively communicate with coaches, student-athletes, athletics staff, and university staff and leadership.

Ability to investigate, evaluate, research, and submit any NCAA violations.

Ability to develop new policies and procedures in order to maintain NCAA Compliance and Industry standards.

Pay Range

$50,427 - $67,236
