Job Responsibilities

Conducts interviews and write stories for print and interactive platforms

Actively seeks out and writes stories (success, feature, analytical, community-focused, etc.), that will contribute to collateral of the College, such as the College magazine, website, e-newsletters, social media, brochures, etc.

Collects and analyzes information about newsworthy subjects to write stories for publication; receives assignments or evaluates news leads and news tips to develop and pitch story ideas; gathers and verifies factual information; and organizes materials and writes stories according to AP Style standards and the College Style guide

Plays a key role in day-to-day operational aspects of ongoing editorial projects, including College publications, advertising, website and blog updates, social media, tracking and reporting and issue management

Assists with proofreading of all marketing collateral at creative, pre-release and vendor proof stages

Maintains and updates internal editorial style guides, regarding word choice, trademarks, legal disclosures, punctuation etc. to ensure editorial accuracy and consistency of content, spelling, grammar, punctuation, clarity and style

In collaboration with the core interactive team, conducts keyword research, focusing on high-volume, targeted terms for College website

Performs link acquisition activities across a multitude of mediums to engage relevant, quality sites and secures links to websites and directories

Conducts ongoing technical SEO audits of College webpages; provide recommendations for page optimization in addition to content

Actively participates in reporting and analysis programs of all digital platforms

Maintains current awareness of SEO technology innovation, and ensures that new approaches are effectively integrated into ongoing content production; educates coworkers on best practices and overall SEO knowledge

Assists with College-wide media relations strategies, which may include writing news releases

Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications


Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism or related field

Minimum of three years of demonstrated experience in writing, editing, journalism and/or interactive media

Demonstrated experience making sound decisions that affect a work unit or team

Demonstrated experience in a role requiring diverse problem solving methods in a variety of situations


Strong writing and editing skills

Possess working knowledge of SEO and SEM theories, concepts, and practices with the ability to use in varied situations as it pertains to the departmental focus

Demonstrated willingness to learn and train other staff members

Well-organized detail-oriented multi-tasker who proactively manages their time while juggling multiple deadline-driven projects

Possess excellent command of English language: grammar, spelling, style, diction; strong working knowledge of AP Style

Ability to meet deadlines in a high pressure setting

Possess aptitude for individual and collaborative work

Possess strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills

Ability to perform well with minimal supervision

Demonstrated advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word

Demonstrated intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Outlook

Demonstrated basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint

Demonstrated basic project management skills

Ability to confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivity

Ability to collaborate, persuade and gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas on significant projects

Ability to develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance work flow and quality
