The First Year Experience (FYE) Program facilitates the overall design and coordination of a structured FYE program including ongoing orientations, summer bridge, college success workshops/classes, common read, intrusive and appreciative advising and outreach initiatives for first-year college students with emphasis on students requiring developmental coursework. Collaborate with other engagement and high impact practices on campus such as new student orientation, early alert, student success course, academic advising, and tutoring to ensure a seamless transition and increase retention and pathways to completion of first-year students. Utilizing best practices, the coordinator of FYE is responsible for providing college leadership with recommendations for direction, development, and implementations of success strategies to eradicate achievement gaps for the target population and sustain academic achievement. This position requires the applicant to be knowledgeable of engagement of all students with an emphasis on equity, student success, and academic excellence; skilled in establishing rapport with a diverse student population, problem solving, making connections to resources, and empowering students to achieve their educational goals. Utilizing a caseload model, the FYE Coordinator is responsible for providing a broad range of services designed to ensure the retention, success and completion of under prepared first-year students through academic monitoring, referral to other appropriate support services, and assistance in developing a holistic cohesive integrated education plan. Additionally, FYE Coordinator will assist the Student Achievement and Success Program (SASP) director in the development of services and initiatives where first-year students intersect with first-generation, low income, under prepared, military and veteran, and minority students.  

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in higher education, education administration, counseling, student personnel administration, guidance, human services, social work, psychology, education or related area. Minimum three years experience in providing mentoring, coaching, academic advising, personal, and/or career guidance and advice. Project management skills and familiarity with program evaluation and assessment. Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently. Knowledge of student development theory, engagement and high impact best practices in higher education. Demonstrated experience working with low-income, first generation students, adult and military/veteran populations. Demonstrated team building, collaboration and partnership work. A high degree of comfort and experience in the online learning environment. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to make group presentations. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PPT, etc.)
