Detailed Job Description

The Manger of Aquatic Programs will be responsible for leading and administering a variety of mission-driven recreational and educational aquatic programs, services, and activities, and supervise the personnel required to safely conduct aquatic programs attracting multiple user groups, at multiple University venues.

Additional Department Summary:

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, Aquatics, the Manager of Aquatic Programs will be charged to lead and administer a variety of mission-driven recreational and educational aquatic programs, services, and activities, and supervise the personnel required to safely conduct aquatic programs attracting multiple user groups, at multiple University venues. Duties include recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling and supervising student staff, planning and implementing an annual calendar of informal and formal aquatic programs and services including but not limited to instructional programs, health & safety education courses, and general fitness swimming. Collaborate and network with University departments and community resources to provide outreach learn-to-swim program. Will be required to travel to multiple aquatic venues. He/she will be responsible for managing these functions in accordance with the stated mission, vision, goals, objectives, policies and practices established by the department, division, and the University.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and three years of experience; OR a master's degree and one year of experience.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree with a minimum of three (3) years progressive experience leading comprehensive aquatics leisure and education programs including program development, program expense management, and student-staff supervision and development; OR Master's degree and a minimum of one (1) years of experience. The incumbent will be expected to acquire relevant aquatic leadership and health and safety certifications as a Lifeguard Instructor or Swim Instructor Trainer. Valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age and have an acceptable motor vehicle report as determined by the insurance carrier.

Skills and Knowledge:

Experience in the evaluation of Lifeguard preparedness and program risk, and hazard abatement, including the handling of emergencies. Knowledge and experience managing staff at multiple venues including recreational swimming facilities and competitive swimming events. This position requires the ability to think in the abstract to create and implement programs as well as solve problems, make decisions, instruct, evaluate, supervise, organize, train, and remember. The position requires the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with people of varying backgrounds. He/she must have strong organizational skills and long-range planning experience with a proven knowledge in aquatic program administration. Knowledge and experience with personal computers and standard software applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree or higher in Recreation, Sports Management, Health and Physical Education or other relevant field. Candidate should have at least two (2) years of progressive experience leading comprehensive aquatics programs at the university/college level. Prefer American Red Cross aquatic leadership certifications at the Instructor level in Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider, First Aid, Swim Instructor, Blood Borne Pathogens, and Administration of Emergency Oxygen, and Water Safety Instructor. Prefer candidate have knowledge of competitive swimming and/or diving electronic timing/scoring systems. 58 Monthly (exempt): - Minimum - $ 37835.16 Midpoint - $ 54870.36
