The Director will continue to build, oversee, manage, and coordinate all aspects of the advancement and growth of Miami University's Women's Initiative (M.I.A.M.I -Miami Initiative for Advancing Mentoring and Investing in Women). In this capacity, the Director will develop and execute a fundraising plan, recruit and manage an active and engaged Advisory Board, solicit major, special and annual gifts, and create programming consistent with the mission and purpose of the Initiative. The primary purpose of the Women's Initiative will be to encourage financial support for the goals and initiatives determined and approved by the Advisory Board and the Office of Development.  As such, the Director will manage a personal portfolio of major gift prospects that have been identified as having both the inclination and capacity financially to support the University’s priorities.   Additionally, the Women’s Initiatives offers two Leadership Symposiums annually to further engage alumna and friends in the life of Miami and to create educational opportunities to this constituency.  This position offers the successful candidate an opportunity to create and manage a growing and exciting program for the University, to include diverse responsibilities and collaboration with Advancement leadership.

Duties

The Director of Development, Women’s Initiatives will:

  • Build, implement, and direct a comprehensive program for the Miami Women's Initiative in support of its fundraising and programmatic goals
  • Identify, cultivate, and personally solicit alumni, parents, and other friends of Miami University for commitments of $50,000 and above
  • Manage and develop strategies for all prospective donors assigned
  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 60-80 individual prospective donors
  • Create and oversee two significant programs to include a Fall campus held event and a Spring Symposium
  • Oversee management of the Women's Initiative Advisory Board, including scheduling of all meetings, coordination of all materials, agendas, minutes, and regular communications with members
  • Work with the Vice President, the Senior Associate Vice President, and the Senior Director of Development for Academic Programs to coordinate recruitment of all members
  • In consultation with campus partners and the Advisory Board, develop and oversee programming that is in keeping with the mission and goals of the Initiative including at least one on-campus program in both the fall and spring semesters
  • Prepare and present gift proposals to prospective donors with the input and assistance of faculty, senior administrators, and deans including proposals for outright, multi-year, and long-term commitments of cash, securities, real estate, personal property, estates, trusts, annuities, insurance, and other assets
  • Serve as the principal departmental liaison to the Miami Women's Initiative
  • Be responsible for all aspects of the program's philanthropic and alumni relations objectives
  • Perform other duties related to the mission of the Office of Development. 

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree and three years of experience in major gift development/fundraising or comparable work experience is required for this position. This position requires extensive travel.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the position of Director of Development, Women’s Initiatives will have:

  • Familiarity with and experience in higher education
  • A demonstrated ability to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donor prospects at the $50,000+ level
  • Experience developing and overseeing meaningful programming that elevates and enhances donor relationships
  • Experience working with, managing, and recruiting volunteers
  • A dynamic and professional demeanor
  • A sophisticated understanding of the nature of donors’ relationships with higher education and the ability to use those relationships to drive engagement
  • Highly developed organizational and systems-building skills, using people, processes, and technology to streamline work and achieve objectives
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles, practices, and daily operations within a development office
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills including public speaking
  • An ability to articulate and present clear and persuasive written and verbal communications
  • Poise and presence that inspires confidence among a broad range of internal and external audiences
  • Proficiency with donor database software
  • Commitment to and enthusiasm for all aspects of Miami University of Ohio and the Miami Women’s Initiative
  • An ability to communicate broadly with a range of external constituencies on topics that reflect the mission of Miami University of Ohio and the Miami Women’s Initiative.
