Bachelors degree in chemistry, biology, or a related field; ASCP histotechnologist certification; supplemented with two (2) years of relevant work experience.
Prepares microscopic slides from human and animal tissue for diagnostic and research purposes; identifies and assigns lab identification numbers to tissue samples.
Performs histochemical and immunohistochecmical staining; prepares and maintains all necessary reagents, such as stains, alcohols, and parraffins, according to specifications.
Maintains equipment and laboratory work areas; changes solutions in tissue processor; cleans and oils microtome; sharpens microtome knives; drains and changes paraffin baths.
Assists with training staff with regard to the implementation of new procedures and with training new staff.
Assists in other facets of division operations as necessary; assists in surgeries; provides patients with wound care instructions; participates in patient follow-up; answers phones; performs other duties as assigned.
