The Opportunity Program (OP) at Skidmore College, a private liberal arts institution, seeks an Associate Director to lead the OP Academic Development and Support Team. The Associate Director serves as the supervisor to the OP Academic Development and Support Team and oversees all aspects of the academic support and academic development of Opportunity Program students. We are particularly open to candidates from under-represented groups who have experience with diverse populations and are able to contribute to the diversity and excellence of Skidmore's academic community.
Responsibilities of the Associate Director include: Provision of advising and academic coaching to a cohort of OP students discerning the academic needs of students and assisting them in developing an academic and personal plan of action for their overall growth and support; monitor students' academic performance/progress toward degree completion; implement student success and retention strategies; assist students in securing content-specific academic support with OP Learning Associates or through on-campus content-based tutoring services; match students with the appropriate resources to aid in their success; educate students regarding stress-reduction and anxiety management techniques to promote academic success, personal wellness, and work-life balance; develop the Academic Transformation course designed to guide first year OP students through their first year; oversee the mid-term evaluation process and communicates with faculty regarding the academic performance of students; assist the Director with all aspects of the Summer Academic Institute; assist the Director with program assessment; keep accurate records for reporting and assessment; and other duties as assigned.
The Associate Director of the Opportunity Program is essential to the success and retention of students in the program and must be completely committed to providing a culturally safe space for OP students and a judgment-free zone for academic exploration and ongoing learning, growth, and development. The candidate must also share our commitment to the academic and psycho-social development of the whole student with special emphasis on self-efficacy, resiliency, and development of positive academic self-image among OP students.
Masters degree and previous experience working in higher education required.
Strong background in academic affairs and or student affairs, or academic advising experience. Experience working with first year college students, English Language Learners and students from under-represented backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to interact with persons from educationally and economically disadvantaged and other diverse backgrounds, and knowledge of issues related to access and equity in higher education.
