Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Curriculum and Academic Effectiveness and working closely with ASA Senior Leadership and assessment committees across the university, the newly-created position of Director of Student Learning Outcomes Assessment will support assessment of student learning across the university. Responsibilities will focus on providing critical support in the development of an assessment culture across the university. The Director of Student Learning Outcomes Assessment will oversee and assist university assessment committees in designing, planning and implementing institution-wide, assessment-related mechanisms and supporting outcomes assessment efforts as they relate to strategic planning, mission and goals.
The Director will provide technical input and support for the selection, design and/or development of assessments that measure student learning in both instructional and non-instructional settings and assist the Office of Institutional Research with analyzing data and preparing technical reports that provide evidence of student learning. The Director of Student Learning Outcomes Assessment will provide guidance and clarification to AVPs, Deans, Chairs and Directors on the effective use of diverse assessment strategies and subsequent use of data to enhance curriculum and programs, to continuously improve student learning across the university. The Director will develop and facilitate regular learning opportunities for faculty and staff within Academic and Student Affairs to help them build and develop their skills in designing, conducting and reporting on assessment of student learning. The Director will also address and resolve assessment issues as they relate to university-wide (Higher Learning Commission) and other accreditation bodies. This will require working with external state and federal agencies as well as providing data and reports to the President and Board of Trustees when necessary. The position also coordinates and oversees the annual Peer Review of Assessment conducted by the university. The successful candidate must have the ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse urban population. The director shall have the credentials for teaching one to two courses per year in a discipline offered by the Metropolitan State University of Denver. A terminal degree;
Experience in higher education outcomes assessment;
Experience working with faculty and staff on the development and implementation of diverse assessment plans and data collection methods.
Teaching experience in a college or university;
Direct responsibility for assessment activities in either a college or university;
Experience developing and facilitating training and workshops for faculty and professional staff;
Experience conducting assessment of student learning in co/extra-curricular programs;
Experience using data for continuous improvement of student learning;
Knowledge or ability establishing data integrity;
Knowledge, training and/or experience creating rubrics and measuring learning outcomes;
Familiarity with regional and specialty accreditation.
Ability to work with student affairs staff in developing innovative plans and strategies for assessing student learning;
Excellent written and oral communication skills;
Strong organizational and project management skills.
