Science and Engineering Librarian
Serve as the subject specialist and liaison to the Departments of Chemistry and Biochemistry, and Chemical, Paper, and Biomedical Engineering, with primary responsibility for providing reference, consultation, collection management, and instructional services. Liaison duties for 2-3 additional departments in the natural sciences and engineering will also be initially assigned, depending on the incumbent’s experience and current library needs. The librarian will provide service from a base of operations in the Business, Engineering, Science, and Technology (B.E.S.T.) Library. The position is responsible for customer assistance as needed with other disciplines served at B.E.S.T. Library and system-wide.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in library initiatives, including scholarly communication advocacy; emerging technologies including 3D modeling, scanning, and printing and other “maker” technologies; data management consultation; STEAM outreach initiatives; developing and teaching credit/non-credit courses or workshops for the library system; developing and managing library services and products; and/or providing requested policy and practice recommendations for Libraries administration.
The position requires a self-motivated, creative, client-centered librarian who is committed to providing excellent customer service and who remains knowledgeable of emerging trends in libraries, information technology, and needs of the subject areas served.
Graduate library degree from an ALA accredited institution
Undergraduate or advanced degree or demonstrated equivalent subject experience in the natural sciences or engineering, preferably in chemistry
Teaching skills leading to proficient instruction in information fluency
Strong commitment to high quality public service; good analytical skills to aid in navigation of information sources and in technology problem solving
Strong computer knowledge including use and applications of multimedia software
Facility with chemical information sources, data, and modeling software
Flexibility; ability to work in teams and independently with all levels of staff and diverse library customers
Strong written and oral communication skills
Initiative and ability to independently conceive and carry out projects
Enthusiasm and capability to independently identify and develop skills in additional new technologies

Experience with computer-assisted design software such as AutoCAD
Experience with statistical analysis software such as SPSS or R
Familiarity with web programming
Experience in public service, customer service, and teaching environments
