Serves as Assistant Department Chair, with a minimum 1/4 release from teaching. The Assistant Chair works with the Chair to ensure success in academic administration in the department including oversight of personnel management (staff hiring, annual reviews, etc.); curriculum development and instruction; student recruiting, orientation, advising, and problem resolution; budgeting and expenses; and other activities such as marketing, running meetings, promoting safety, etc. In addition, the Assistant Chair supervises dispatch, maintenance and facilities, and assists the Chair in oversight of flight and records. The Assistant Chair promotes the well-being of the students, staff and faculty of the department; and supports and seeks ways to fulfill the guiding concepts for the college embodied in the philosophy, mission, values and vision of shared governance at UVU. The Assistant Chair also models excellence in education, training and certification, and demonstrates successful scholarship and collaborative service.
Graduation from an accredited institution with terminal, earned degree appropriate to discipline. ABD accepted. Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content. Evidence of potential for scholarly/creative work consistent with a teaching university. Graduation from an accredited institution with a master’s degree in aviation or master’s in a related discipline with a strong history of aviation industry experience.
Demonstrated accomplishments in the development and administration of education, training or related programs with the Aviation industry.
Experience as an academic manager/director within the Aviation industry.
Knowledge of current and developing issues and trends.
Knowledge of safety and risk management for flight center related operations to help assist in development and implementation of safety initiatives.
Assist Chair of assessment and evaluation of staff members.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Budget preparation, analysis, and fiscal management.
Skills in supervision and decision-making, planing, development and implementation.
Strong interpersonal, development, organization and prioritization skills.
Ability to foster a cooperative work environment, direct staff as needed, direct and support academic and technical projects, develop, plan, and implement short and long-range goals, contribute to the development faculty and staff.
Ability to resolve conflict and develop positive working environment.
