Instructor- Health/Physical Education Wilderness Leadership (WLEE) (Mt. Hood Community College, Gresham, OR)

The Health and Physical Education Department at Mt. Hood Community College is accepting applications for a full-time Instructor - Health/Physical Education Wilderness Leadership and Experiential Education (WLEE). The instructor assists the Dean of Health Physical Education, Athletics, Aquatics and Recreation by teaching courses in support of the WLEE program. Responsibilities include teaching coursework in rock climbing, back packing, back country and winter travel, wilderness survival, mountaineering or other classes assigned by the dean. Other responsibilities include advising prospective students within the Wilderness Leadership and Experiential Education program, assisting with discipline operations and curriculum implementation and review, working closely with the community to develop cooperative work-experience opportunities for students, and providing coordination between the college, local high schools and four-year universities.

The minimum qualifications for this position are:

• Masters degree in one of the following areas: health, physical education, recreation, outdoor education or related field
• At the college's discretion, additional experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
• Three years of teaching a range of outdoor skills courses, as well as leading land and/or water-based expeditions
• Experience with best practices of quality and care in teaching and leading outdoor pursuits
• Documented training/education/experience in land and/or water based outdoor skills areas
• Experience working with diverse populations
