Job Responsibilities

Manages the daily operations of the general accounting areas

Plans, organizes and implements accounting operations and objectives; coordinates and integrates all activities toward achievement of established goals and objectives

Ensures that all work is performed in an accurate and timely manner in compliance with GAAP, the Ohio Revised Code, the Auditor of State, College policies and procedures, rules, regulations and laws

Coordinates and executes the accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close for the College and the Foundation

Oversees the preparation and analysis of internal and external reporting of financial information, and ensures the quality, reliability and timeliness of the reports

Compiles data to prepare monthly and annual financial statements, supporting schedules and analysis

Prepares and reviews financial and account analysis procedures for annual financial statements included in the audited year-end reports

Prepares and/or reviews reports required by the Ohio Board of Regents, the Auditor of State, the Public Employees Retirement System, the State Teachers Retirement System, and other internal and external users

Supervises staff, including hiring, directing work, evaluating, training, motivating, and coaching performance

Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures to enhance the workflow of the department, improve processes and increase efficiency

Studies and evaluates accounting operations and participates in system design enhancements

Supports budget development and forecasting activities, special projects, performance tracking, workflow process improvements, and overall department goals and objectives

Works with senior management and auditors to coordinate general accounting’s role in annual audits, complete audit questionnaires, perform analytical review and other audit related procedures as necessary to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit

Reviews journal entries prepared by staff accountants and assists in journalizing new activity and transactions in accordance with GAAP

Reviews all grant financial reports and submissions of drawdowns

Works with grant program managers to ensure compliance

Tracks and reviews the timely reconciliation of general ledger accounts

Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance

Minimum of six years of demonstrated progressively responsible accounting-related professional experience

Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant

Demonstrated executive experience planning, assigning, scheduling, supervising and ensuring the quality of the work of others

Demonstrated experience forecasting, planning, preparing, maintaining, and monitoring a business area’s budget

Demonstrated experience effectively making decisions that have major implications on the management and operations within a department

Demonstrated effectiveness in a role requiring dynamic and abstract problem solving methods in adaptive situations


Possesses comprehensive knowledge of accounting theories, concepts and practices with the ability to use in complex, difficult and/or unprecedented situations as it pertains to the departmental focus

Possesses excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

Possesses strong organizational and time-management skills

Works accurately with great attention to detail

Ability to prioritize/handle multiple tasks and work with deadlines in a dynamic environment

Ability to promote collaboration, teamwork, and involve all stakeholders in decision-making processes

Excellent customer service skills and proven ability to develop and sustain productive customer relationships

Ability to effectively complete work assignments independently

Intermediate-level project management skills

Advanced-level proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Access

Intermediate-level proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration

Demonstrated experience working within an academic environment supervising operations and staff

Possess thorough understanding of the accounting requirements of governmental entities (ORC, GAAP, State Auditor, etc.)

Work Schedule

Standard College work hours Monday-Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
